How did you get started in bridge? At what age? Who from?

Classmates in high school introduced me to it.  I was 17 at the time.

What do (did) you do professionally?

Medical practitioner.

Who is your partner and for how long? Longest partnership?

Andy Braithwaite for my main national and international events.  I play with a number of others locally.  Playing with Andy is now my longest serious partnership.

If you had a choice who would you like to play with? Australia and Internationally- living or dead?

Not something I ever think about.  I’ve been fortunate to have had 6 great influences in my bridge life who have taught me and shown me things, and have made me the player I am.

In your playing career, what is the bridge success that has the most meaning for you?

My silver medal in the Asia Cup 2014.

And your worst moment in bridge?

Losing a semi-final of the NOT to Indonesia on the last hand.

What do you do between sessions to put you in the best frame of mind for the following session?

Have a light snack and soft drink.

Do you have a favourite and least favourite convention?

No favourites.  I hate Blackout.

Would you prefer to have more system or less?

Less is more.

What do you do to improve your game?

Look at hands and see how bidding and play in them could improve the outcome, and why that might be justifiable.  Discuss situations and theory with good players, adopting ideas from them.

Favourite bridge book?

Card Play Technique.

What interests or hobbies do you have besides bridge?

Analysing trading techniques for share and options trading, enjoying fine red wines, following the fortunes of Liverpool FC.

What is the number one thing that bridge has done for you as a person and for your life?

Shown me the value of being as tolerant, fair and reasonable as possible to a very wide variety of people.

Bridge Results and Awards

National Titles

Many over nearly 30 years.  To name a few, Gold Coast Teams and Pairs, NOT a couple of times, SWP Teams a couple of times, ANOT Teams once, ANC Teams in Open category many times, both for South Australia and the ACT and in Seniors category for the ACT, many Grand National Teams titles for the ACT, 

 State Representation

Represented both South Australia and the ACT in Open Interstate Teams, as well as for the ACT in Open and Seniors Interstate Teams, many times over the years.

 International Representation

Starting in 2009, numerous time in Open and Seniors categories, Bermuda Bowls, World Bridge Games, Asia Cups, Commonwealth Games, APBCs, and Yeh Cups.
