We missed a big contract here. I’m East and wondered what you would recommend for the bidding.
Hi Lisa,
I would recommend East to open a weak 2♠. The suit quality isn’t that great I agree, but when you’re not vulnerable and in third seat, you can expect South to have a decent hand, and it would certainly bother them to have to deal with a 2♠ preempt in front of them! This would allow E/W to compete in spades, and possibly find the 4♠ sacrifice vs. N/S’s 4♥, though I suspect N/S might compete to 5♦ anyway.
Kind regards
Andy
